Over the past six months Nick and I have been tossing around the idea of starting a photography business. We’ve worked on a few ideas, and advertised very lightly on campus and on Craigslist. Nick has done several portrait sessions, and we were very excited to book our first wedding a few months ago. We shot the wedding together in June – It went really well, and we were very pleased with the images.
What we didn’t plan on was the huge response we would get once people saw that our work from the wedding. Over the past few days we have received several emails from people wanting information or asking to meet with us. This is VERY exciting, but also VERY overwhelming. Because of this, it has now become imperative that we move forward with the many other aspects of being a business that we have held off on. I.E. a real website, business cards, a professional logo, and even more equipment.
All of a sudden, we are gripped with the fear of success. Our goal in starting a photography business was to do something we loved, that would allow us to work together and generate extra income. (Looking [very far] forward, a small business would even allow us to plant a church someday without placing strain on a young church’s finances.) So, we would like to ask you to please pray for us in regards to the following things:
- that we would move forward wisely, making the right choices
- that a successful business would be the support to our life that we hope it will be and not a distraction to the things that we feel are God-appointed
- that we would know which customers to accept and which to turn away
- that the process of accomplishing the things I listed earlier would be smooth
- that we would be able to distinguish ourselves from the hundreds of other “photographers” out there
- that we would honor God and have peace as we go
